Falling Matters

Falling Matters ist das Ergebnis eines ausgiebigen Forschungsprozesses zwischen Victoria Hauke (Choreographie) und Andi Otto (Komposition). Ihre gut zehnjährige internationale Zusammenarbeit kreiste immer wieder um die Frage: Was ist die Beziehung zwischen Tanz und Musik? Folgt der Tanz der Musik, begleitet die Musik den Tanz?

Diese künstlerische Frage löst sich in Falling Matters in einem tanzend bespielten, elektronisch resonierenden Zwischenraum auf.

Jedes Geräusch von drei tanzenden, fallenden Körpern auf dem Holzboden der präparierten Bühnen erzeugt, transformiert sich zu Tönen. Pic-Up Mikrofone unter den Böden nehmen die Geräusche auf, leiten sie in den Computer. Erst hierdurch wird die Komposition hörbar.

In zyklisch strukturierten Gravity Listening Sessions führen die Künstler das minimale Bewegungs- und Klangmaterial in immer neue Formen. Im lebendigen Dreieck zwischen Tanz, Perkussion und LiveKlangregie entsteht die Musik, algorithmisch erzeugt, mit Software, eigens für diesen Zweck programmiert.
Der Titel Falling Matters bezeichnet die performenden Körper als fallende Materie. We are falling matters. Wobei diese Materie besondere Formen von Wissen, von Sensibilität, Lernen und Erinnerung besitzt. Dieses Wissen steckt in allen Zellen und eben nicht nur im Gehirn.

Gleichzeitig ist das Fallen als formgebendes Moment einer Bewegung zu sehen, das keineswegs trivial ist.

Man kann (sich) Fallen (lassen) sogar als produktive Basis eines Lebensentwurfs sehen: Falling is what matters. Anstatt Fortschritt einfach linear zu konzipieren, als neuer-größer-schneller geht es bei der Idee des Fallens auch um zyklische Regeneration.

Momentanes Zurücknehmen vorwärts drängender Kraft in der Bewegung wird zur Hingabe an die Schwerkraft, die dem Bedürfnis nach Regeneration Raum gibt und neues Potenzial mitbringt. Die Künstler feiern die Idee des Fallens und das Prinzip der Regeneration in immer neuen Loops. It‘s the falling that matters.

Falling Matters

Falling Matters is the result of an intensive research of the choreographer Victoria Hauke and the composer Andi Otto. Their meanwhile 10 years lasting international collaboration keeps revovling around the question: What is the relation between dance and music? Is the dance following the music – is the music accompanying the dance? Or…?

With special floor instruments, which also form the stage design, the artistic question is resolved in Falling Matters in a dance-filled, electronically resonating space.

Every sound created by three dancing, falling bodies on the wooden floor of the three prepared stages, transforms into tones. Pic-up microphones under the floors pick up the sounds and direct them into the computer. This is the only way to make the composition audible.

In cyclically structured Gravity Listening Sessions, the artists lead the minimal movement and sound material into ever new forms,

In the lively triangle between dance, percussion and live sound direction, the music is created, algorithmically generated, with software, specially programmed for this purpose.

The title Falling Matters describes the performing bodies as falling matter. Gravity becomes sound. We are falling matters. This matter has special forms of knowledge, learning and memory. The knowledge is in all cells, and not just in the brain.

At the same time, falling can be seen as a form-giving moment of movement, which is by no means trivial.

You can even see (let yourself) fall as the productive basis of a life plan: Falling is what matters. Instead of simply conceiving progress linearly, as new-bigger-faster, the idea of falling is also about cyclical regeneration.

The momentary withdrawal of the forward-pressing force in movement turns into surrender to gravity, giving space to the need for regeneration and bringing new potential with it. The artists celebrate the idea of falling and the principle of regeneration in ever new loops. It's the falling that matters.
